Receiving, Shipping & Material Handling Manager, Skolnik Industries, LLC

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Receiving, Shipping, and Material Handling Manager to lead our plant’s logistical operations, with a focus on material flow, inventory integrity, and warehouse efficiency. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring raw materials and finished goods move through the facility safely, efficiently, and on time—supporting both production operations and customer fulfillment.
The ideal candidate will provide strategic oversight across receiving, internal material movement, inventory control, and outbound shipping, while working closely with a dedicated Shipping Supervisor who manages day-to-day shipping execution.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a culture of safety-first thinking across all warehouse and logistics operations.
- Ensure all team members are properly trained and certified as required (e.g., forklift operation, PPE use).
- Conduct and oversee regular safety audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Hazmat, EPA, and Fire Department regulations, particularly regarding paint and chemical storage and handling.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations.
Receiving & Inventory Control
- Manage all inbound materials, including inspection, verification, receiving documentation, and put-away.
- Coordinate with Purchasing and vendors to resolve shipment discrepancies and damages.
- Partner with Quality on inspections, rejections, and rework processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely inventory transactions in the ERP system.
- Ensure raw materials and components are staged for production in alignment with manufacturing schedules.
- Establish and manage a formal cycle count program.
- Plan and oversee biannual physical inventories.
Material Handling & Warehouse Operations
- Oversee the movement and storage of materials within the facility—from receiving dock to warehouse to production staging and finished goods.
- Lead the safe operation, training, and maintenance of forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
- Optimize warehouse layout and storage strategies to improve efficiency and space utilization.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and enforce safety protocols throughout the warehouse.
Shipping (Strategic Oversight)
- Collaborate with the Shipping Supervisor to ensure timely, accurate outbound shipments that meet customer and carrier requirements.
- Monitor and review KPIs related to shipping accuracy, freight costs, carrier performance, and packaging quality.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in outbound logistics, including documentation accuracy and shipment readiness.
- Manage finished goods inventory across stock and make-to-order items.
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manage the Receiving and Material Handling teams (3 employees); indirectly oversee the Shipping team through the Shipping Supervisor (1 supervisor and 7 associates).
- Set team goals, monitor progress, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Support employee development through coaching, training, and cross-training.
- Promote accountability and enforce compliance with company policies and standards.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the logistics liaison with Production, Purchasing, and Planning/Scheduling teams.
- Ensure accurate and timely communication regarding material availability, production support, and shipping status.
- Actively participate in planning meetings to align logistics with production and delivery timelines.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in warehouse, logistics, or distribution operations, including 5+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of inventory control processes and ERP/WMS platforms (Epicor experience is advantageous).
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and handheld inventory scanning devices.
- Demonstrated success in lean warehousing, process improvement, and safety program implementation.
- Ability to lead through others and collaborate effectively across departments.
Forklift certification or train-the-trainer credentials are a plus.
